What a Canvas quiz log may record

Canvas materials describe quiz-log events including when a question was viewed or answered and when the quiz page stopped being viewed and later resumed. These events are activity signals, not a recording of everything on the device.

What the event does not prove by itself

A loss-of-focus event does not identify the other application or tab, explain why focus changed, or establish intent. Notifications, accessibility tools, connection problems, and ordinary navigation can affect activity. Instructors should interpret logs with other evidence and institutional procedures.

Classic Quizzes, New Quizzes, and external tools

Features can differ between Canvas quiz systems and can change over time. A school may also use a lockdown browser or remote-proctoring product with separate capabilities and notices. Read the instructions displayed for the specific assessment instead of assuming every Canvas quiz behaves identically.

Practical student guidance

• Ask the instructor what resources are permitted.
• Close unrelated notifications before a timed assessment.
• Report technical interruptions promptly.
• Use AI tools only for activities where outside assistance is allowed.
